SMQA members were invited to participate in a Trash to Treasure Challenge. Their completed items were displayed at the 2023 SMQA Quilt Show. The three winners were determined by Viewers' Choice, and each of them received a prize. A box of items was given to each participant to be incorporated into their projects. They had to use four of these items, as well as anything else from their stash or collections. They were encouraged to be as creative as they wanted and were not required to limit themselves to a square. They could make a small quilt, doll clothes, wearables, shadowbox, pillow covers, or follow their artistic vision wherever it led. Each item had to be no larger than 16 inches by 16 inches.
