Confetti Cake
By Joan Earnest
Artist's Statement: After our guild made the Star Baby quilts at a workshop, I was hooked on the paper piecing technique that Judy Niemeyer uses. A larger quilt needed to be made. The colors of the confetti cake pattern really attracted me with all those bright colors and polka dots and stripes. Who doesn't love polka dots and stripes?? This was a really fun quilt to make and had lots of negative space so that I could practice my new quilting skills with great big feathers! So much fun!

Nana's Garden
By Joan Earnest
Artist's Statement: Claire Marks presented a workshop to our guild last November. I enjoyed using her paper pieced pattern to make a table topper. I copied her color choices of purple and orange as they are my favorites also. After class I purchased her pattern for Nana's Garden because she said it was the hardest one she's made. I like a challenge! She warned me about those beautiful ribbon diamonds! They took forever but are so worth the time. I chose turquoise and lime green because I didn't just want to copy hers. She told me after seeing my finished top that many people said that she should have made hers blue and green. I guess I fulfilled their wishes. She is going to post a photo of mine one her Facebook page to please all those who like her pattern but wanted my colors. This was a really big challenge but it turned out great.

BG aka Beach Girl
By Sally Walker
Artist's Statement: With the upcoming pet portrait SMQA workshop by Jane Haworth coming up, I discreetly snapped photos of BG—short for Beach Girl—my brother and sister-in-law’s adorable Havanese pup when visiting them at Grover Beach last fall. I had so much fun bringing her to life in fabric.

Underground Railroad Sampler
By Jaydene Johnson
Artist's Statement: The story behind the "Underground Railroad" quilts has always intrigued me. When I visited several safe homes in Pennsylvania with a historian, my heart yearned to make a part of history. The oral history of the quilt squares indicated quilt patterns showing safe routes for the runaways searching for freedom. Quilts were left outside to "air". So many brave runaways risked their lives for Freedom! I am grateful everyday for the Freedoms we have. It will be completed May 2025.

A Place in the Country
by Kathy Millhollon
Artist's Statement: I purchased this pattern in Texas at a quilt store I visited during a retreat. It reminded me of home. I waited until 2024 to start piecing this quilt and had it quilted in 2025

It's Always Sunny in California, Mosty
By Charlotte Hickman
Artist's Statement: I heard about making a temperature quilt in which the high and low temperatures for each day of a given year is recorded using different colored fabric. I decided to make mine for the year 2024. Using temperatures in increments of 5 degrees starting at 20 degrees F to 115 degrees F. I chose different colored fabric ranging from the coldest to the highest temperature. In addition I noted days when there was snow or rain on certain specific days. I used my embroidery machine to embroider a snow flake for snowy days and a rain cloud for rainy days. If there was a thunderstorm with lightening I embroidered a little thunder bolt for that particular day. I enjoyed using the bright colors with the black background fabric.

Four Eyed Frog
Artist's Statement: This designer's website is full of kooky designs. She makes the most intricate paper pieced patterns! Look at how tiny some of these pieces are! From the moment I saw this silly froggie, I knew I had to make it.

Dog and Daisy
Artist's Statement: Hawaiian Quilting is done with just two pieces of fabric and the quilting stitches follow the contour of the appliqué design. I wanted to do some Hawaiian quilting and this pattern reminded me of our dog "Lucy". She was a black lab and loved to smell everything she came in contact with. She past away in 2023.

Betsy Anne Was Here
By Jean Richter
Artist's Statement: This quilt was made with fabrics from my own stash and from the late great Betsy Anne Youngholm’s stash. It was paper pieced from a pattern. It’s the first time I’ve done any teeny tiny quilt making to make the center star. I was inspired to try this quilt after picking up some of the fabric Betsy Anne left behind.

Spring Bunny
By Joan Earnest
This little quilt was a last minute decision to make. I made it completely at our Spring Retreat because we were given the opportunity to enter a mini. I thought the bunny was too cute and had the pattern. I knew I could complete it quickly. But too late for Easter!
